Technology has become a facet used in just about every aspect of our daily lives. About 92% of children aged 2-17 play video and computer games, and 59% of children and adolescents use the internet both academically and personally. It goes without saying that technology has become an integral part of teaching and learning in the classroom as well. We use student think pads in the classroom during guided reading to work on phonics, reading comprehension and fluency. We use them during math to build concrete number sense as well as practice our addition and subtraction facts. This is where the student headphones and mouse pads would be beneficial in our classroom. We also use a variety of manipulatives to build, create and problem solve. It enhances physical, social and cognitive skills as well as helps students develop their mathematical and spatial reasoning. This is where the magnatiles and blocks will enhance our classroom.
