My students are presented with the task of studying history from the development of early man through modern day. All of this in just 90 days of 90 minute classes filled with all of the interruptions that come with any classroom. They persevere through this to challenge themselves and earn an early high school credit. Our textbooks--- don't exist. Our resources---come from Teacherspayteachers, or are created by the teacher. Our students haven't had the advantage of 7th and 8th grade social studies as a foundation to build on, therefore; they lack the assumed background knowledge needed to achieve a deeper understanding during the hands on learning experiences in this course. In order to best prepare them for the reading intensive high school final, while still providing hands on projects and learning experiences, I've found a fantastic aid that not only aligns with the curriculum, but with my presentation of the material and engages them from start to finish: "Everything You Need To Ace World History". It is our sincere hope that we will be able to put a class set into the room so that every student has one to read. This will allow students to take personal responsibility for their education as well as enter every activity with a similar base of knowledge in every topic. Not to mention the invaluable review resource it would provide to them and all future classes.
