I can't wait to offer my Read 180 students some new reading materials! "House on Mango Street" is a great novel to capture the attention of my high school students. My Hispanic students will relate to the beautifully written stories by Sandra Cisneros. Each class is setting a new reading goal this semester and this novel will keep them motivated! Reading 20 minutes a day is our class goal and this is the perfect novel as it is written from the perspective of teenage Latina, Esperanza Cordero. These books will make a difference to my students as they need to read a book that they can relate to, and Cisnero's Puerto-Rican background is perfect!
