Our school is located in a rural section of North Carolina and is classified as high poverty. We have a high student turnover rate that has been one of the factors that has prevented our school from meeting our annual yearly progress (AYP) goals under the No Child Left Behind Act. The students we teach are bright and excited to learn but for many reasons face challenges when trying to meet state testing requirements. Unfortunately reading in the home is not a high priority for many of our students and their parents and we are always looking for positive ways to motive our students to learn about the many great authors and books that are available to them. We have great students who are eager to learn and with that extra little push and motivation have shown that they are willing to do what it takes to become more successful at school.
