By giving the students access to age appropriate physical education materials, they'll be able to learn all the requisite skills to be physically active adults for the rest of their lives with confidence and competence. By providing assessment materials like the push-up mats, sit and reach boards and curl up strips, students will learn from a young age how to self assess health related fitness components and compare those scores against science backed norms. The myth that some students are born athletic and some aren't is a lazy excuse to underachieve. All students are capable of learning the fundamental movement skills that will allow them to choose from a myriad of physical activities to keep physically healthy and active as they transition to adulthood. Having access to badminton, volleyball and lacrosse equipment will give my students access to sports that are not common in most urban areas and will help to expand their scope of knowledge and experience. This new knowledge will help to further bridge that gap between them and their peers who have more available resources. Like any other skill, the earlier we start to properly develop, the easier it'll be for students to achieve baseline competence and progress into more complex skills and concepts.
