The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in reading and authentic, meaningful writing. My students will have access to social interaction with peers in collaborative book circles while reading Wonder, Number in the Stars, and Huckleberry Fin. This will build their self esteem and vocabulary to communicate with peers, family, and future employers. Using Eyewitness Nonfiction Readers, Wonders Grades 2 and 3, and Cells and Organisms, they will build confidence as they pass each reading level, increase their literacy, across curriculum vocabulary as well as their desire to learn. The students will become empowered to share their thoughts and goals, and will have the initiative to reach them. Knowing their strengths and limitations will give them a benchmark to measure growth and continue success.
