Our School Garden was established in the spring of 2018. We took an ordinary patch of grass, and raised funds through raffles and donations (seed money, literally) and created something wonderful out of nothing. The students took the funds we raised and purchased 6 yards of soil and seeds, and thus was established the School Vegetable Garden! The garden project has the potential to change the lives of our students. By becoming an outdoor classroom, they learned rudimentary finance literacy by raising funds and calculating costs. Science is incorporated by having the students germinate the seeds and observe and measure growth. They improve awareness of health and physical education by laying out garden, turning and digging in the soil and planting. Very importantly, the psycho/social aspect of working together and seeing their project come to fruition is established. Our goal eventually is to have a farm to table experience with our students.
