We are a designated Elementary Fine Arts Signature Program. It's very exciting for my extremely talented scholars to have more Fine Arts opportunities available to them: however, funding for the arts at our smaller, Title 1 school is still very difficult, despite the strong administrative support for our vision and passion. Music equipment and resources can be expensive, making it impossible year after year to buy a piano; something so basic to a music teacher's classroom, not to mention a Fine Arts school. Through grants, we have slowly but surely bought instruments for our scholars to create with. We still don't have enough, but we have grown a little. However, instruction in the music classroom, especially in choir, has been limited because we do not have a quality piano to aid in teaching music and to accompany our scholars at performances. A piano has always been out of reach for our budget for the seven years I've been here. We had a used, but broken acoustic piano in the past, but the cost of tuning and maintaining an acoustic piano isn't sustainable with our small music budget. A digital piano is the way to go. It doesn't require tuning or maintenance, and will last for years to come. The piano I have requested is a Yamaha portable grand piano, which provides the feel and action of an acoustic piano, with the highest quality of digital sound. Since it's portable, I can take it to our performances and also use it in the classroom. I hope you'll consider supporting our school and help us obtain this very important instrument if our Fine Arts program! Thank you!
