Coming to America, these children do not have any life experiences outside of their new communities. They know about the parks that surround their apartment buildings, the local grocery store that their parents take them to, and the random trips to the mall. I would love to teach them about America and the rest of the world, so I assign a weekly current events homework. Unfortunately, the parents of my students do not have the extra money, or even time, to purchase a newspaper or magazine every week. I feel that a subscription to TIME for Kids would really ignite the interest in my students to do the assignments, and to have a desire to learn. Unfortunately, I have an overwhelming amount of students this year, so I cannot provide many materials for them to use myself.
