In 2018, I started an Aquatic Life course at our high school that has been extremely popular! The students participate in animal husbandry, water quality testing, experiments, system design and we have even adopted the stream behind our school! The aquarium systems have also been useful in the Environmental Science and Physics courses that I teach. All of my students benefit from having fish in the classroom and I am always looking for new ways to implement the aquariums into my lesson plans. The additional materials and maintenance supplies provided by your donation will allow my students to participate in more STEM aspects of aquarium husbandry. The technology surrounding aquarium lighting, fish nutrition and water quality management are expensive components of maintaining aquatic systems. Having access to supplies and a variety of system components will allow students to more fully understand the science behind aquariums and aquatic life. Water is life and teaching students to preserve and protect natural aquatic environments can start with teaching them about the animals and plants that live in their classroom.
