I teach first grade at a beautifully diverse and financially challenged school. The children I teach are engaged and active as they build their reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Due to budget cuts that have come in the past, we no longer have PE teachers, music teachers, or art instructors. In order to ensure that I provide my students with a rich and fulfilling first grade experience, I strive to ensure that I not only include reading, writing, and math in the daily curriculum, but I also allocate time and carefully plan PE, science, history, art, social studies, music, and drama lessons and units.
