My students are currently reading Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes, and many of the students have really enjoyed the poetry & prose style of this book. Long Way Down would be an excellent follow-up book for them to be able to continue in this same style / format that they have enjoyed so much. Personally, after I finished reading Long Way Down for the first time, I knew it was the book I want to teach for our next semester focus novel. The unique prose format of this book will entice and should make it easy for my kids to dive into and enjoy this book as much as I have enjoyed it. These books will give the kids a chance, maybe for the first time in a long time, to read a new and current book. It will also provide this class the opportunity to read books that aren't falling apart or taped together. Each student will have the joy of turning the pages for the first time, hearing the pages crinkle as only a new book does.
