In my inclusion classroom, I have many students who are developmentally delayed with sensory issues. An iPad would be extremely beneficial for these students. If they have an iPad, I can download programs to help with sensory needs and body regulation. Students with sensory issues are suggested to listen to calming music to regroup. There are apps for yoga, exercise, and meditation as that will allow these students to become aware of stress triggers before they go into sensory overload. Regular exercise and meditation have been shown to reduce anxiety and stress and help even out moods. Students with sensory issues respond well to technology and enjoy the colorful visuals and sounds that an iPad can provide. An iPad will also provide independence of learning as the students will learn to navigate the iPad themselves and choose the app they need to help regulate their body.
