My students deserve to read books that reflect their own lives and experiences, as well as books that serve as an escape from the stress of everyday life. I teach a diverse group of kids, and these books are a reflection of that demographic. These books feature characters who are people of color, LGBT+, immigrants, teenagers with mental disorders, disabilities, etc. Even for students who may not identify as any of the above, it is important for them to be exposed to the different realities of their peers and those around them, and literature is a great way to accomplish this. It is important to note that these books are not only aimed at diverse student populations, but also toward reluctant readers. In this cart, there are books that are high interest but low level for readers who struggle, graphic novels, and nonfiction books. By donating to our classroom, you are helping passionate readers devour a new book, but you are also helping reluctant readers to find their favorite book. Your donation will also help students find a little bit of themselves featured in the pages of these reads. Thank you!
