In a populated location of NY State, my students attend a middle school in a predominantly urban area. Outside school, they face geopolitical and social issues, but our school is a generally safe environment. Students of diverse ethnic backgrounds attend our school. Regardless of test scores, ALL of our students want to learn. But our school faces a lack of resources that are basic to other schools, such as computers and working internet connection. Many of our students do not know what a SMART board is. Overhead projectors are impossible to find and the ones found usually do not work. The school has an extremely limited space, with allocations being disadvantageous to learning to a degree. In addition, our students do not have a functional library. Classroom libraries exist, but they are minimal. The school has exceptional students, but everyone could benefit from the basic resources we lack.
