My students would like more choice in how they use the classroom space. Using standing desks gives a few new options for students who would like to read or write, but not in a traditional desk. I teach students who crave kinesthetic experiences, even if it means standing up to sharpen his/her pencil. Standing or using high top tables and stools offers students choices that fit his/her own learning style. In the English classroom, this is important because so much of our daily work requires a surface to write, but may not require them to be stationary. I would like to begin the process of a total classroom transformation--from 30 desks to a mix of seating options. This project will help me reach my goal.
