The soft pillows and different textures from the sensory materials provide the children with a safe space to experience their big feelings. Sometimes those big feelings can be scary, especially when they are away from home. Learning mindfulness with the mindful kids card deck provide them with some necessary life skills and coping mechanisms to aid them as they grow in their world. The purpose for this project is to build self-regulation skills for children who have experienced trauma or are at-risk of experiencing adverse childhood experiences. The self regulation skills that the children develop in their formative early childhood years provide a foundation that they will use as they grow into adulthood.
