Imagine walking into a classroom set up like a complete wonderland, yet full of meaningful content based learning activities. The requested materials are going to help turn our classroom into a construction zone where students will "construct" pieces of writing while wearing hard hats and using "caution" to implement their learning writing components. They will become doctors and nurses on the doctor's office themed day and they will complete "surgeries" (also known as learning tasks) throughout the day to heal their patient. They will become Mario and Luigi in a fairytale world in which they will solve levels of activities to save the princess. They will eat at the Retelling Restaurant as they taste books of different genres and dine with their friends while discussing books and characters. This is only the beginning of what these materials will create. Each lesson will be themed to include engaging details to activate the little second grade minds and then engage them into standards based lessons with hands on activities. These themed days will be surprises for the students as they will not know about them until arriving at school on the scheduled days. Excitement in the air!
