My class is one of nine first grade classes at Meadow Homes Elementary in Concord, CA, a suburb of the Bay Area. Over 90% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch, and over 90% speak English as a second language. The students in my class speak Spanish in the home and are learning English as a second language. As with all first graders, these curious youngsters love to read and are eager to learn about the world around them.
