Increasing the seating options available to my students will improve their motivation and ability to concentrate on reading, collaborating and learning. When my students have the opportunity to choose where they sit, they are noticeably more excited about what they are doing than if they sit in a seat in a row of desks. When given a choice, students often choose to sit on the floor, under a counter or at a back table. Currently, my students don't have many seating options. With these limited seating options, it is difficult to accommodate students with special needs, such as those with ADHD, anxiety or autism. By adding a Hokki stool and a couple of Zenergy ball chairs, I will be able to offer my students more choice. They will be so excited to have these chairs as an option! The only unique seat I have right now is a flattened bean bag! There are also other benefits of having this type of seating. Sitting in a chair that requires the sitter to constantly balance their bodies could improve posture, core strength and the ability to focus on learning. And some kids just need to keep moving to help them learn. As the student gently moves and bounces in their seat, they get the sensory input needed to stay focused. Please help me provide these valuable additions to my classroom. My students will appreciate it more than you can imagine.
