My fifth grade students come from varied backgrounds. What they all have in common is that they have been living with technology their entire lives, having been born around the turn of the millennium. As a result, technology captivates them like nothing else. Right now they are coming to an age where they will decide to either “tune out” or find their passion. As a teacher, my utmost goal is to keep them engaged and share with them exciting new ways of learning. Our school is a wonderfully supportive environment, but it lacks the equipment of today’s high-tech world. Budget cuts have hit us hard and the school is unable to supply the kind of technology that these students crave. Their excitement for today’s technology will help mold them into effective and capable citizens of tomorrow’s world that I am preparing them to enter.
