Prior to this trip, students will be engaged in current event activities such as the child separations happening at the border which will link immigration from the past to the present. Students will engage in activities relating to immigration, interview grandparents and other older relatives to create a family tree, and create a quilt with patches that have sentimental meaning to the history of their family. Students will learn about the history of racial inequality that has plagued our country for years and the continuing challenges it has created for all Americans. They will learn that this field trip isn't just about the advancement of one race but rather rather collective goal to advance equal justice for all people.
