As part of our Social Studies unit on the Civil War, our class will be reading Freedom Train: The Story of Harriet Tubman. This book will be our first novel unit, and the students are excited about reading a book together. Our books will give us insight into the world before us, and what life was like in the South during that time. During our lessons, we will read the life of Harriet Tubman and conclude on the character traits she represents. We will learn about living in the 1800s and do a compare and contrast on how things are either the same or different. This unit is set to start in February.
