My Project Students need calm bodies to effectively learn; and students sometimes need assistance, space and time to regulate emotions. With your help, our sensory room will be a place students can utilize when they are overwhelmed, overstimulated, and need a break. Children often have difficulties processing the sensory input from their busy environments. Just as adults experience stress so do children; however, children usually need to be taught how to use positive coping skills to prevent the use of negative coping skills. Negative coping skills can present in students' behaviors such as; fighting, refusing to complete work, self-harm, shutting down etc... This room will be a safe place for students that will use tactile, auditory, and kinesthetic senses to assist in self-regulation and calming. This room will allow students to return to class, emotionally regulated and ready to learn. Studies have shown that with sensory input, students are able to increase attention to task, quality of work, and better interactions with peers, teachers, and staff.
