When reading is difficult, everything you have to do that involves reading becomes a chore and your internal desire to do it dissipates. When you read or are read to, you learn to comprehend the world around you. With this project, students will be given the ability to read and be read to using Immersion Reading. Books available in ebook format AND audio format on Kindles have the capability to sync together so the students read along with the audio version of the story. The words are highlighted along with the audio, engaging multiple parts of the brain at one time and improving student comprehension of the stories they are reading. Seeing and hearing new words in context builds greater vocabularies and fosters a greater understanding of how to use those words. I have been building my personal student-age ebook and audio book library for years, and now, with my first classroom, I want to be able to share it with them. My one personal Kindle is just not enough to serve all those this can benefit. Please help me provide this learning opportunity in my classroom.
