When my students first learn that they're going to read Romeo and Juliet, the vast majority are skeptical at best; however, each year I am able to find more and more ways to make reading the play a fun and engaging process. This year, I would love to introduce graphic novels, costumes, and props into my instruction. By donating to this project, you will help my students interact with a complex text in an engaging way as they will be able to perform various scenes for their peers. The Romeo and Juliet Graphic Novel: Original Texts will provide important visual aids to my struggling readers. With these, we can provide intervention, have students work as groups, and gain ideas for performances. The costumes, such as the Beanie Hats and Renaissance Berets will make the acting process more authentic and enjoyable for my rural students. My hope is that they will feel more motivated to actively participate if they have quality materials and props at their disposal. As a whole, this project will help my rural students excitedly conquer a challenging text!
