Students of all ages benefit from having access to books of their choice. Reading engagement improves when students have books that interest them. The students at my school have requested more graphic novels to read and I would like to provide titles that are well-recommended by experts in the field. The Bone series includes several genres within its pages and appeals to elementary aged children. The newest title in this order, The Arrival, will help students to develop empathy for people of other cultures. Reluctant readers and readers who prefer visual support in books will benefit from having a larger selection of graphic novels from which to choose. Social Studies teachers will use the books to support their curriculum through small group instruction or home projects.
