For the first 40 minutes of our classes, we read novels (fiction text), and then we switch gears for the last part of class to do nonfiction text. At the beginning and end of our days, we spend time organizing materials, finishing assignments and beginning homework. As you can see, this is a lot of intense reading. I would LOVE to have some flexible seating options to make our classroom more comfortable and help us break up the class. My students always beg me to go to the Library and read there because the librarian has comfy chairs, pillows and a rug to sit on. Because there are classes and other students using the library, this is not always an option. I would love to offer flexible seating for my students as an incentive to read and help them stay focused in our lessons. Wobble stools and pillows would be wonderful for testing or long written assignments. This will give my students an opportunity to fidget or move during high stress situations.
