As the lead math teacher for grades 3 through 5 in my school, I am required to teach and support math instruction for Students at every grade level. Math is a very complex subject, which requires precise instruction focused on modeling, problem solving, and real word application. Through use of the iPad and Apple pencil, paired with various apps compatible with the device, I will be able to provide math instruction tailored to meet my students where they are. For example, when teaching fractions I would be able to model creating equivalent fractions using both visual models (by drawing) and computations (by writing) to meet the various learning styles of my students. As we are forced to enter a more digital age, technology is no longer optional for teachers or students. As a math teacher I understand the importance of merging the traditional paper pencil task with present day technology.
