My kindergarten students absolutely LOVE reading, but we have very few stories that feature characters that they can see themselves in and that reflect the future of the world. It is vital to me as an educator to expose my students to the diversity of families, cultures, skin colors, and beliefs that exist in our world today so that we can start a conversation in kindergarten about acceptance, understanding, and compassion. More than ever students need to be taught social and emotional skills and respect for differences than ever before. The books I have selected will hold a mirror up to their own cultures and identities while also shining light on worlds they may have never known existed. Please consider making this project dream a reality for my 20 kindergarten world-changers.
