In a recent survey, my students identified that their least preferred style of classroom seating is traditional desks. They would much prefer to sit in groups of lounge chairs and couches like you would find at home and in most coffee shops. This atmosphere provides an authentic and inviting space for students and teachers. We want to add a space like this in our classroom, where students can make mindful choices to help promote their learning. Students deserve to be comfortable in their learning environment. By adding a loveseat, lounge chairs, rug, table, and floor seating students will have an area where they can create and collaborate in a welcoming, calm environment. By providing student designed spaces in the classroom, we can help students to navigate a more authentic experience and provide them opportunities to make the most of their learning.
