My students attend a state-run technical high school in Connecticut. They meet in academics 92 days a year and meet in their chosen technology the other 92 days. They come from 23 different cities and towns, often riding the bus close to an hour to and from school each day. The student body is truly diverse, composed mainly of Latino, African-American, and Caucasian students. Since they are only in academics half the time of a regular high school,and it is hard for them to stay after school, my students have limited access to resources outside of my classroom which help them complete assignments. My students are generally curious and motivated to learn, but often lack the appropriate resources due to funding being tied to an increasingly dwindling state budget. My students come to this school to learn both academic and trade skills in order to maximize their post-high school options. They are among the nicest, most genuine students I have ever worked with.
