My students are creative and eager to work with their hands. I want to give my students hands on STEAM experiences through a Breakerspace that I am creating in my classroom! A Breakerspace is a collaborative work space where students have the opportunity to safely explore how common household items work by disassembling them! My Breakerspace will have various small electronics and appliances for students to take apart and discover what's inside and see how they work! It will be a great place for students to wonder, tinker, explore and discover! Donations thru Donors Choose of small tools such as precision sized screwdriver sets, pliers, wire and metal cutters, students are able to disassemble items allowing them to get inside and understand how these objects operate. After students take apart the items in the Breakerspace they can repurpose the parts and use their creativity to make new things! Their creativity will be enhanced with the addition of tools and materials such as glue, beads, yarn, plastic wheels and googly eyes! It is my hope that with the support of Donors Choose, I will be able to create a Breakerspace in my classroom to stimulate and inspire my middle schoolers. To give them a new place to work that has no guidelines, timelines or benchmarks.
