Team sports are the heart of school spirit. Oftentimes, though, girls sports get overlooked and lack the funding that the boys teams receive. This year, the girls at our middle school wanted to make that change. They are determined to have a volleyball team, regardless of the fact that the majority of them play basketball in the spring. They want a fall sport and they are ready and willing to put in the work! We were able to use school jerseys, however, we do not have equipment to practice or play games. Our biggest ask is for a team set of knee pads, so that our students can learn how to play together, and truly give it their all. By donating to our project, you will not only help protect the knees of these students, you will ultimately help to increase their bonds, self-confidence, and sense of achievement. Being on a team, especially at an age of immense personal development, gives these students a sense of belonging, helps with communication skills, and gives them a chance to learn from, and teach, their peers. The collective of a team changes the thought process from being about how "I" can succeed, to how "we" can succeed. I have seen the positive impact that these students have on each other, when given the opportunity to push themselves toward greatness. They did not choose their circumstances, and they are not letting anything stop them. They are choosing to power through and ask for your help in making their dreams come true.
