The purpose of my project is to fund laptops that I will be able to integrate into math centers. This will allow me to work with smaller groups of students at a time, which is so important, as we all know that all students learn in different ways and at different speeds. Not only will I be able to tailor my lesson to the small group of students that I am working with while the others are on computers, but I will also be able to manage and customize the programs on the laptops to meet the needs of each individual student. Through being able to integrate laptops into my math centers, not only will my students have access to rigorous and engaging programs, but my students will also be able to learn basic computer and typing skills, essential in our every day society. My students come from a rural community, and many of them have not been able to explore very far from home. As a teacher with a passion for traveling, I want to encourage and develop that curiosity for the world that all of my 7 and 8 year olds possess! Our school has access to a world pen-pal program that I would also love to start with my students, as I know they would learn so much comparing their life with that of another child their age around the world. As their teacher, I want them to know that they can do anything they set their mind to, and in order for them to achieve their dreams, they need the computer foundation to be successful.
