Children with Autism often have difficulties with sensory processing. They are often overwhelmed by sounds and lighting and need sensory input to help self-regulate. Our classroom is creating a sensory area specifically for this reason. The materials will be used to create our sensory area and also to integrate sensory strategies into our regular routine. The cube chairs will be used to circle and table times to provide sensory support to students to increase attention. The glitter tubes will be used to provide visual sensory input. The quiet cube will be used in the sensory area to provide a quiet, enclosed, safe space for students when they are overwhelmed in the classroom.
