We will be using TIME magazine for kids to have quality, high interest nonfiction text in the hands of every 4th grader. This is especially important because they will be able to take the text home to make further connections with family, read for enjoyment/practice at home, and compare school studies to real current events seen in the news and world around them. Reading nonfiction/informational text is a necessary skill yet many students are intimidated and therefore lean more toward fictional reading practice. With TIME magazines, students will find the text less threatening (shorter than a full book, great graphics, real photos, etc.) and will learn a variety of skills while enjoying their study of interesting current events.
