In today's world students are often focused on virtual reality. Current periodicals like TIME for Kids, and Scholastic magazines help students understand what is happening in the world and help students relate to the world around them. These magazines already have a place reserved in my classroom library. Since a new class set comes every month, students have the opportunity to practice reading while learning Social Studies and Science content. Students are given an opportunity to discuss what they are learning and their thoughts on various current topics. Finally, students can take a copy home and share what they learn with their families.
