My scholars come from various religious, political orientation and from rich demographic background. Only 25 percent communicate in and can comprehend English. In my delivery of instructions, I use a lot of visuals which I draw in an anchor chart. I refrain from using internet generated pictures because of copyright issues plus I want my scholars to see how I draw in front of them. This simulates their eagerness to learn and show off their skills. What surprised me was. . . since they have difficulty expressing their thoughts, they would rather draw before they explain it in broken English. It supports their verbal communication as concepts are being processed in their brain. Scholars develop phrases and sentences using drawing and signs patterns to express learning. After each lesson chapter, I conclude my lesson by having a Tour of Knowledge Wall. These anchor charts are gallery of students' works. The idea is to revisit state standards taught, brainstorm these ideas represented by drawings, categorize based on topics discussed, jotting down important ideas or new ideas, elaborate and teach back. The mobile mini projector will allow me to move students in a more natural learning environment. Using this device, I will extend instructions outside of the classroom and be more verbally non-restrictive for my scholars. Your art supply materials and mini-mobile projector will help sustain their learning process as well as increase their ability to communicate and will empower them to believe in their ability to communicate through visual arts.
