Within every unit, my students are given the opportunity to choose fiction and nonfiction books to help them develop and apply new reading skills and strategies. It is crucial that my students are given the opportunity for individual book choice to support their individual interests and excitement for reading! My students are expected to choose 8-10 books from our classroom library each week to read, applying their reading habits to help them solve tricky words, helping to build their fluency and understanding of a wide variety of texts. If students are given a variety of texts, they will each have an equal opportunity to choose from all different texts to spark their interests when learning to read!
