The resources in our school are targeted to teach only one type of student. My hope is that I can teach my students with materials targeted towards each student, encompassing their background, race, and gender, so that it is more easy to relate to. This year we have had the experience of studying two different novels as a class, but the characters in the book do NOT reflect the students in my class. When students are able to "see themselves" in the text it is easier for them to make connections and develop aspirations based on what they have read. My hope is to get a class set of the novel "Return to Sender," in hopes that the novel would connect to the majority of my class. If we were able to study this novel it would provide a deeper understanding into others cultures and experiences.
