The alternative high school where I teach history, biology, and special education, serves seventeen to twenty-one year old students who have either dropped out or been removed from neighborhood schools. The school follows a year-round schedule with double periods that allows students to earn a half of a credit in each class every ten weeks. This accelerated program allows students who have fallen significantly behind their peers to quickly experience progress towards earning their high school diplomas.
