Choice is an important aspect in a teenager's life! They have many adults in their life telling them this and that and this. A classroom library allows students the freedom to choose a just right book. Uprooted and Word in Deep Blue are books that deal with topics such as racial tensions, depression, and the death of a sibling. Lost in the Sun explores the struggles of a teen after a freak boating incident. These books provide life lessons and teachable moments through the safety of someone else's story. Books give kids a voice. Books which mirror their lives as well as a provide windows into others' experiences help teenagers learn about empathy and being a decent human.
