The materials I am requesting make up some of the fundamentals in art: Drawing and Painting. It is so important that young artists have the opportunity to experiment with quality materials that lend themselves well to the effort and vision they put forth in their work. These materials will give our young artists the opportunity to grow and improve their techniques in drawing and painting as well as to experiment with different applications and media. My goal this year is to be able to provide a level of artistic enrichment and community for a number of students at our school who may otherwise not be able to participate in art-related activities-- whether from lack of ability to afford supplies and/or lack of access to fine arts education during regular school hours. Last year, I donated the bulk of my personal leftover art supplies toward this cause and was gladly able to provide many students the opportunity to create art in our after-school Art Club. This year, while I am no longer in the position to do that, I expect even more students will be wanting to participate in Art Club due to higher enrollment and the fact that art classes are not being offered to our middle school students AT ALL this year. I believe it would be wrong to create a potentially financially exclusive art club (by instating a fee to join) given the circumstances that so many of my students and their families face each day. Please help me give these students the gift of artistic expression and community! They desperately need your support and advocacy for the arts.
