Our students want to make a difference in their world by forging connections literally and figuratively. They feel isolated and not able to make a difference; they would like to no longer feel as if their learning is very separate from the world at large. Our innovative project wants to solve for this disconnect while helping make prosthetics affordable for children. One of the ways to make students feel powerful and connected is to empower them with social innovation. In a partnership with our anatomy teacher, we want to give students a chance to change their world, to stop feeling powerless, and to participate at the forefront of medical innovation. The differences in circumstance are pronounced. We need to collapse those differences with our capacities. The anatomy teacher, my students, and I will collaborate to use design-thinking and anatomical knowledge to make use of open source material in 3D medical printing. We're inspired by stories of prosthetics made on school printers and we will work with our local nonprofit clinic. These students want to make a difference! We are requesting for a 3D printer and filaments.
