As a Second grade teacher, literature has already held a special place in my heart. Recently, students are struggling with making that connection and becoming engaged readers. Without question, my students would benefit immensely from having an updated classroom library available to them other than the limited resources our school district strives to provide. It is my passion to help young readers disconnect from their devices and tap into the boundless world of books. This gift of literature would help immensely! Undoubtedly, my students would further excel in areas of writing, research, close-reading, discovery, and independent thinking by having access to more books of all genres. Being able to speak and write well is a skill that transcends all professions and a big component of our 2nd grade curriculum is research. I love being able to foster their interests, curiosity, and knowledge through independent reading. I cannot put into words how special and meaningful it would be to close the literacy gap in my classroom. My students are so deserving of this and it would be a humbling honor to be able to share this gift with years of hard-working students.
