My EL (English learner) students need access to iPads to use at home. Kajeet has awarded CES a partial grant to include SmartSpots. The Kajeet SmartSpot provides safe broadband in the students' homes. The SmartSpots and iPads allow the students to practice reading and math skills on familiar websites used at school. As project coordinator, the time spent on the iPad and websites visited will be monitored. SmartSpots and iPads not being used will be returned and loaned to another student. The iPads and SmartSpots will be returned at the end of each school year. At the beginning of the new school year, SmartSpots and iPads will be loaned to the students with the greatest needs. The Kajeet SmartSpots and iPads will benefit not only current EL students but siblings and the many EL students to come. The initial phase of the project includes the SmartSpots, provided through a grant, and the purchase of iPads. The SmartSpots and iPads will belong to the school. Each year the school will pay for ten months of data to keep the project going.
