My students are from a high poverty school and do not have the opportunity to attend summer camps and other extra-curricular enrichment classes. They love to go out and discover things. When we are outside, they are engaged in their learning. Being outside and seeing the real world up close is much more beneficial than looking at it in books. I want to instill in my students the confidence that they are scientists and can make a difference in their world. In order for them to respect and take care of the earth, they need to get to know it first. By experiencing nature throughout the seasons they will be able to gain a greater appreciation of the environment. In our classroom we are becoming technology experts. We use different computer programs to produce reports and stories based on our own computer research.
