All of my students have profound emotional and behavioral disabilities due to trauma, and they require many, many accommodations to make it through the school day. Mathematics is a difficult subject for most children in general, but for at-risk behavioral children, it is even more challenging to sit and complete a math worksheet. I am trying to come up with as many ways as I can to engage my students in their academics. These comfy floor seats will allow the children to sit wherever they'd like in the classroom and complete their work independently. I am confident that these creative seating options will get my students excited about coming to my class each day. They don't stay in my class all day; they rotate classrooms for each subject, much like a regular middle-schooler or high-schooler would. I am hoping that these new floor seats will make the math classroom their favorite place! These seats will facilitate inclusion in my classroom, because as my students' behaviors improve, they can be slowly integrated (included) into the general education setting back at their neighborhood schools, which is our ultimate goal! Also, because my students obviously all have very diverse learning needs, these chairs will celebrate their diversity and enable them to work in an environment best suited for them. These chairs are also in very cool neon colors, making my students even more excited! These chairs will assist my diverse learners with their ADHD and mental health concerns, allowing them to succeed in my special education classroom.
