My Kindergarten, First and Second grade classes have been working on coding virtual robots. I plan to use the Botley the Coding Robot sets to give my students the opportunity to write their code and program their robots. Students will learn about "bugs" and understand how to "debug" their program. With Botley the Coding Robot sets, my students will be able to experience their work come alive. They will be able to see their code be performed by Botley once they run their program. As students become more experienced with writing code, we will begin to set up obstacles for student to code Botley through. I will be able to teach students about the problem solving process and help them to plan their solutions before running Botley through the obstacle course. Then students will try their solutions and check to see if their solutions were successful or if they need to debug their code. Students will learn that there can be more than one correct way to code Botley through the course and that it is okay to make mistakes as we learn from our mistakes through the debugging process.
